Mid America Pet Food voluntarily recalls one lot of their Victor Super Premium Dog Food, Hi-Pro Plus due to potential salmonella contamination on September 3, 2023.

The recently recalled dog food was produced at the company’s Mount Pleasant, Texas production company and distributed to various retailers across the country.

The voluntary recall was issued after a single sample of the Victor Super Premium Dog Food tested positive for Salmonella during a random sample test conducted by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture.

Furthermore, the affected product was sold in 5-pound bags. And it consisted of 644 cases with lot code 1000016385 with Best By Date 4/30/2024. You can check the lot code information on the back of the 5-pound bag.

No other products from Victor Pet Food are affected and no humans or pet illnesses have been reported as of date.

The company and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is asking retailers and distributors to immediately pull the recalled lot from their inventory and to not sell nor donate the affected products.

In addition to this, the company and the FDA also reminded those that have bought the products to destroy the food in a way that children, pets and wildlife cannot access.

They also reminded people to “Wash and sanitize pet food bowls, cups and storage containers. Always ensure you wash and sanitize your hands after handling recalled food or any utensils that come in contact with recalled food.”

Salmonella can affect animals when they ingest affected products. It also poses a risk to humans when they handle contaminated products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands and/or utensils or surfaces exposed to these products.
